EACH MONTH THE FOOD PANTRY AT WE CARE:
Distributes more than 1,800 bags of food.
Assists 5,538 Rhea County residents.
The We Care Food Pantry was the first program of its kind in Rhea County, created to provide food for families and individuals — whether for emergency situations or on a long-term basis.
We Care is getting closer to its goal of ending hunger in Rhea County. In 2012, alone, we provided 22,771 bags containing 285 tons of food to our hungry neighbors.
However, we couldn't do this work alone. We rely on the support of partners like the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, the USDA food program and the Chattanooga Food Bank — as well as individual and corporate donors like WalMart, Bi-Lo, local scout troops and churches. We are neighbors helping neighbors, and we rely on community support to continue and expand our footprint of good.

“I was very impressed with We Care and how they operate,” says Smith. “I like the way they give a hand up, not a hand out.”
You know God is working through you when you see faces of children, and faces of parents light up when they see their children happy.

And Smith has a history of helping others himself. Before returning to Dayton, Smith spear-headed an effort in Texas to provide Christmas for families in need.
With the holiday season on the horizon, Smith found the perfect partner in We Care to implement that program right here in Rhea County.
